Orion Sleep System
Dual-zone water cover with heating and cooling
Our Verdict
A dual-zone, water-based cover that heats or cools each side of your mattress (50–113°F, per Orion), with no required subscription if you pay upfront. Tom's Guide and The Strategist found the temperature control effective; the trade-offs are a bulky tower that can hum, paid tracking (US $250/yr), a 30-night trial, three sizes and owner reports of sensor and app problems. US $2,395 list (Queen).

In-Depth Review
What Is the Orion Sleep System?
The Orion Sleep System is a dual-zone, water-based cover that goes over the mattress you already own. A bedside Control Tower heats or cools water and pumps it through thin tubes in the cover, from 50°F to 113°F (10–45°C, per Orion). Each side runs its own temperature and schedule.
How It Works
The Smart Cover fits over your mattress like a fitted sheet. The Control Tower (24" × 9" footprint, one standard outlet) heats or cools the water and circulates it. Control is app-only, with no remote or dial. Per Orion, the bed holds its current setting without internet, but changing temperatures and schedules needs a connection.
Safety: the tower can heat its water to 113°F (45°C), so treat warm settings like any bed warmer. Orion's setup guide says to plug the tower into a grounded wall outlet, not put it under the bed or inside furniture, and unplug it and contact Orion Support if you see water leaking or hear very loud or unusual noises. Never use it under a baby or in a crib. If you can't feel heat well (for example, from diabetes-related nerve damage) or you're pregnant, ask your doctor before using extended heat. Control is app-only, so set conservative schedules for anyone who can't easily use a phone.

View Best PriceWhat Published Research and Owner Reviews Say
This summary is based on Orion's published specifications and policies, independent reviews from Tom's Guide, The Strategist and TechCrunch, and owner reports on Orion's subreddit. We haven't used it ourselves and don't run lab tests. Tom's Guide and The Strategist found the temperature control effective. Tom's Guide also reported a low-level hum from the tower and basic sleep tracking, and some owners on Orion's subreddit report sensor, app and Wi-Fi problems; these are individual reports, not a failure rate. Orion's sleep-improvement figures come from an internal study that hasn't been published or peer-reviewed. Sources and details are in our full Orion Sleep review.
The Bottom Line
Orion is a credible, lower-list-price alternative to Eight Sleep for US couples who mainly want dual-zone water cooling without paying for software. It isn't our #1 bed cooling pick: the short trial, limited sizes, young track record and owner reports hold it back. If you buy, pay upfront and test both sides and the app within 30 nights.
